Rainier Scholars TI at James Center

“Empowering Education through Thoughtful Design”

The project is a 5,000-square-foot renovation designed to enhance the educational facilities of the Rainier Scholars Organization. Located in the heart of Tacoma, this project reflects Alpha Sharp's dedication to supporting educational advancement and community growth.

The design of the James Center is focused on creating a dynamic and functional environment that supports the mission of Rainier Scholars. With spaces tailored for teaching, tutoring, and administrative activities, the project ensures that Rainier Scholars can continue their impactful work, empowering students to reach their full potential. This initiative not only demonstrates Alpha Sharp's commitment to quality design but also underscores our belief in the transformative power of education and community development.

Rainier Scholars is an organization committed to cultivating the academic and leadership potential of underrepresented students of color. Through rigorous and transformative opportunities, they aim to increase college graduation rates and empower new generations of leaders. Their vision is for a just and inclusive society, where people of color are equitably represented at all levels of leadership and influence.

The students served by Rainier Scholars include those most underrepresented on college campuses—multi-generational African American, African immigrant, Hispanic/Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Native American students. With approximately 90% of participants coming from low-income families and households without a four-year college degree, the program plays a crucial role in breaking down barriers to higher education.
